How Userlane's HEART works
HEART is Userlane’s behavioral model purpose-built for measuring application adoption. The model gives you a standardized way to measure whether your software initiatives deliver value. Five attributes score adoption and friction across every application:
- Happiness: How users feel about the app, from in-app surveys
- Efficiency: How long tasks take to complete
- Adoption: How widely the app is used and whether people stick with it
- Risk: Whether processes are followed and data stays compliant
- Task success: Whether users complete the workflows that matter

Frequently Asked Questions
HEART scores are calculated using a proprietary algorithm that weighs dozens of usage signals. Factors include active users, feature utilization, session frequency, and task completion. Scores are normalized so you can compare across applications.
HEART can start delivering insights quickly. Activate HEART analytics for your applications in the Userlane Portal, and interaction events appear within hours. Score dashboards stabilize within approximately one month. Userlane's dedicated Customer Value Manager guides you through setup and helps you interpret the data.
HEART integrates with all popular browser-based enterprise applications out of the box, including all major EPR/EHR, CRM, ERP, and HCM applications. Userlane's REST API allows you to export HEART analytics data in JSON format into your existing BI tools.
HEART is built with privacy by design. It collects only non-sensitive usage metadata, never personal information or user inputs. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and Userlane complies fully with GDPR (see our Data Processing Addendum) and holds ISO 27001 certification.
HEART works with any application accessed through a web browser, including cloud-hosted and on-premise systems with browser-based interfaces. The Userlane browser extension delivers analytics across your entire web-based application landscape without requiring changes to your existing infrastructure.
